CCBHC Target Population
Who is the prescribed target population to be served by CCBHCs? CCBHCs emphasize serving those with serious mental illness (SMI), serious emotional disturbance (SED), long-term chronic addiction, and co-occurring disorders. CCBHCs also serve those with mild or moderate mental illness and substance use disorders, and complex health profiles. The CCBHC target population also includes those who are underserved, low-income/in poverty, insured, underinsured, uninsured, Medicaid-insured, and those who are active-duty military or veterans. These target populations are prescribed; these are the individuals that must be served within the CCBHC.
Can we customize the target population to meet the specific needs of our organization or service area? Within the grant proposal, CCBHCs can also identify specific subpopulations within the prescribed target population. For example, some programs focus on specific ethnic/racial groups, individuals experiencing homelessness, individuals living with AIDS/HIV, individuals with justice involvement, individuals with gang involvement, individuals living in rural areas, individuals identifying as LBGTQI+, and more.
